HART NM Fosters are a key part of our rescue process. Fosters providing a temporary housing for HART NM Dogs and Cats while they find their forever homes. The more fosters we have, the more lives we can save!

We have tHREE types of fosters

Full Time

Full Time Fosters take in a dog, cat or litters of puppies or kittens off transport, or from another foster, and provide temporary housing until they are placed in their forever home. This can be as short as a few days, or take several weeks. Our full time fosters typically commit to their foster pet until they find their forever home.

Bottle Baby Fosters

Bottle Baby Fosters typically foster puppies or kittens that are not yet ready to be away from mom that need a little more care and attention. Bottle Baby Fosters need to have a flexible schedule and lots of patience!

EMERGENCY Fosters

Emergency Fosters take over care for animals with a full time foster if an emergency arises that the full-time foster is temporarily unable to care for their foster animals. Emergency fosters typically would not be needed for more than a week and often are only needed to cover care for a day or two. Foster animal will be returned to the full-time foster as quickly as possible.

Why Foster

Fostering animals saves lives!

  1. Fostering increases an animal’s chance of getting adopted.

  2. Your own pets will learn more social skills.

  3. You get to see if you’re ready to own another pet.

  4. Fostering is temporary.

  5. You can choose how to foster. Only want to bottle feed baby kittens? Prefer to foster special needs animals? We are happy to work with you to accommodate what you are comfortable with.

  6. Fostering keeps animals out of shelters. Valencia County Animal Shelter takes in 100 to 125 pets a week.

  7. You are saving a life. You feel good, your shelter or rescue group helps more animals, and your foster pet is happy, healthy, and well-socialized.
